Biography

Councilor James A. "Jim" Restucci was elected to the Sunnyside City Council in 2003 and is currently serving his fourth term. Councilor Restucci has twice served as mayor pro tem: 2006-2008; 2009-2010, and has served as mayor four times, 2010-2012; 2013-2014; 2014-2016, 2016-2018.  He served as the city’s 29th and 31st mayor, respectively.  His current term (Position 6 – At-Large) expires December 31, 2019.

Councilor Restucci represents the city, county and state on numerous boards and commissions (see list) and holds leadership positions on the following:

  • Commissioner, Washington State Transportation Commission (Eastern WA)
  • Chairman, Yakima Valley Conference of Governments
  • Chairman, Yakima Valley Transportation Policy Board
  • Vice Chairman, YAKCORPS (IPSS) Board of Directors
  • AWC Past President, Association of Washington Cities
  • Chairman, 2018 AWC Board of Directors Nominating Committee

On July 17, 2018, Councilor Restucci was appointed by Governor Jay Inslee to the Washington State Transportation Commission (WSTC). The WSTC is required by law to prepare the State’s Transportation plan every four years and make recommendations to the Legislature, the commission also serves as the Tolling Authority, and is charged with setting tolls and ferry rates in the state.  Councilor Restucci holds one of 3 Eastern Washington seats on the Commission and his term expires, June 30, 2024, more information about the Commission can be found on their website, http://www.wstc.wa.gov

Councilor Restucci is currently the AWC Past President, having served as AWC President from 2016-2017. As AWC Past President, Councilor Restucci chairs the AWC Board Nominating Committee and serves on the AWC Executive Committee and is part of the team that shapes the AWC Legislative Agenda, provides oversight to the AWC CEO and AWC Program Directors, and carries the message of all 281 cities to the Governor, Legislature and state agencies.

From 2012-2018, Councilor Restucci served on the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) Board of Directors (Region XV), representing the 10 Councils of Government (COGs) in Washington and the 12 COGs in Oregon on the national stage.

narc-logo-web.JPGSince 2010, Councilor Restucci has served as chairman of the Yakima Valley Conference of Governments, Executive Committee and Transportation Policy Board. 

Councilor Restucci has been awarded both the Certificate of Municipal Leadership (2006) and the

Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership (2009) from the Association of Washington Cities.  In 2012, Councilor Restucci was named the Spirit of Sunnyside Public Official of the Year by the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce.


Professional Life

Councilor Restucci served as a member of the U.S. Army (1984 to 1994) and Washington Army National Guard (AGR) from 1994 to 2004. He is a lifetime member of the Sunnyside Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3482 and was awarded the State of Washington Guardsman’s Medal for Heroism in January 1999 by then Governor Gary Locke.

In his professional life, Councilor Restucci is CEO and chief technology officer of Axcess Corporation™ He is married to DeLeesa Restucci (Hochhalter) and they have two sons, Dylan (23) and Alex (22).
